
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 20th, 2000) is an American actress and singer. Her career spanned more 40 years. A torch performer renowned for her smooth, sultry contralto vocals, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her performance of "Cry Me a River" which she first performed on her debut album. London was nominated for an Golden Globe Award for 1974 for her role in Emergency! as nurse Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35 year acting career began in the film industry in 1944. It included parts as the female lead role in various westerns. In the middle of the 1950s she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional career. In 1969 she released her final studio album. But she continued to be prominent in the emergency show as Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) during which she was portrayed by her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
