Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaker. She founded Feminist Frequency, a site with videos and guest posts on the representations of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and award-winning feminist for over a decade. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit site for education that investigates female representations in popular cultural narratives is founded and directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes of women that have been portrayed in pop culture she also is a vocal advocate for issues relating to the targeted harassment of women as well as other classes of the Internet space. Sarkeesian holds a bachelor's degree in social thought and politics at York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaker. Sarkeesian delivered speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Fest and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She has been interested in the gender issue and feminist movements from a very early age. In 2009, when she was still studying at university she started her Feminist Frequency site. The ambitious lady planned to create an online program that would examine the gender roles in games but was the target of a harassment campaign online. The woman was not stopped by the harassment, in fact it only reinforced her desire to become a media critic and feminist. Numerous awards have been awarded to her for all of the contribution she has have made. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist for a long time and was the creator of Feminist Frequency. This educational nonprofit explores women's representations in pop culture narratives.
