Arianna Huffington
Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington is a Greek American author syndicated columnist and businesswoman. She is a founder of The Huffington Post and the director of Thrive Global. Author of fifteen books. Arianna Huffington is an independent liberal news website and a television host as well as a writer and philanthropist. Born in Greece Arianna Huffington immigrated to England with her family when she was the age of 16. In Cambridge University she earned a MA qualification in Economics. At 21 she became president of the renowned debating society The Cambridge Union' and was the first foreign born student in the history of Cambridge University to be elected. After graduation she made her name as columnist in the conservative syndicated media and, with the launching of The Huffington Post' few years later, she developed an online voice portal which offered critical observations on the political scenario. In part, her fame has helped attract a number of famous contributors. Arianna was famous when she decided in 2003 to stand as an independent Candidate for the California Recall Election in order to succeed the former governor Davis. Alongside this, she directed the Detroit project to promote vehicles that are fuel efficient. She was named one of the Most Influential Women in Media by Forbes in 2009, gaining 12th position on that list. In the same year Guardian included her in the Top 100 Media List. AOL Inc. bought The Huffington Post, and she was named president of this media group. It included a variety of AOL properties of the time like Engadget AOL style list and Patch Media. Elli has two siblings, Konstantinos Stasinopoulos as well as Elli the other, both of whom are management consultants and journalists. She was very close with her father. However, it was the relationship she had with her mother that shaped her. She was a leader throughout her childhood. In the year she turned 16, she moved from the United States to the United Kingdom and enrolled Girton College Cambridge. She was a member of the Cambridge Union college debate society while in college and was the first woman to hold the position of the president. She graduated in 1972 with a Masters in Economics. In the years following her degree she became a columnist, critic and TV host. Also, with Bernard Levin she appeared on an edition of Face the music.
